Loki: Why do Marvel fans praise the villain?

The name Loki has become more popular this season in Hollywood than it's used to be. Marvel fans are tagging Loki on every social media and trending him the number #1. Not only Marvel fans...Dudes from other fandoms and people who don't watch comic-based movies are also started taking interest in this character.

So who is Loki?

Why do marvel fans praising a villain?

Loki:

Loki Laufeyson is the son of Laufey (duh!), a frost giant. He was adopted by Odin and was raised as the Prince of Asgard. Unfortunately, he was raised in the shadow of the other prince of Asgard, Thor. Thor Odinson was the epitome of what an Asgardian should be.

Loki was the opposite. A schemer, a sorcerer, and used all of it to cause problems for everyone else. Growing up second best gave him an inferiority complex, and he always tried to prove his worth to his father.

Ugh! Brothers right?

He is the God of Mischief, sometimes God of Lies (these are mentioned in the movies, if I’m not mistaken), often referred to as Liesmith and silver tongue (neither of which is mentioned in the movies, by the way, these are taken from the myth just to explain a bit better).

In the mythology, Loki is about Odin’s age and is bonded by blood with Odin. This is different since, in the MCU, Loki is Thor’s age (slightly younger than Thor by a few hundred years?) In the myth, Loki has a wife and three sons, and a daughter: Fenrir, a wolf, Jormungand, a giant snake, Sleipnir, an eight-legged horse (whom he is the mother of since he shape-shifted into a female horse had the child with a full horse named Svadilfari) and Hel, who we know as Odin’s firstborn in the MCU. Jormungard, Fenrir, and Hel are all from his wife named Angrboda.

In the myth, Loki is blood bonded with Odin, meaning he is accepted as an Aesir- however, Odin is the son of Bor and a frost giant, meaning that the King of Asgard technically is part-Jotun. It’s unclear if this is the case in the MCU, but that is what the myth says. (Odin has two brothers, Vili and Ve if you want to know.)

Ah, we’ve strayed too far. Let’s get back to the MCU.

Villain to Hero:

Loki is a great villain, but you see that in the first two Thor movies, he betrays and redeems and betrays, always. He does some good deeds but it doesn’t mean he wants to save lives. Usually, a push is needed for Loki to do something about a situation. He did save his brother’s life but in the climax, he sat on the throne to prove to us once again he’s cunning as ever.

Loki became an intergalactic villain (it sounds cool right?) in the movie Avengers. After full-scale villain, we could able to see his light side in Thor: Ragnarok where he fights for what is right alongside his brother Thor. Later In the Infinity war, when Loki encounters Thanos to protect his brother, he was choked to death by the Mad titan. This time he’s really dead and no resurrection. That was supposed to be the end of Loki’s saga but MCU directors brought him in the end game when Avengers travel back to the New York attack. Avengers initial plan is to steal the Tesseract smoothly and get back to the present timeline but it got ruined when Hulk kicked the door open and pushed Future Tony stark when he told to take stairs. Stark dropped the Tesseract to the ground and got slide away to the Loki

I don’t blame Hulk, which was 93 floors we’re talking.

That’s when the chaos theory embarks, Past Loki picks up the Tesseract and portal his way out into an Arab Dessert. Good job everyone we stepped onto the first step to create a multiverse.

Marvel’s Phase 4 Project – Loki (TV series)

Howsoever the writing, script and cinematography can only help a viewer to love a story but can only the good actor makes the viewer love a character.

Tom Hiddleston shoulder it up, he’s acting and dialogue delivery was absolutely flawless and he really showed so many emotions from being arrogant, evil-minded to most admirable charm boy to fans. Tom Hiddleston has been a delight as Loki since Thor but seeing these new sides of the character that had at most shown fleetingly get a whole new platform and it’s fun to see. His reactions when Mobius shows him that it was his own actions that led to Frigga’s death were excellent. But later when he fast forwards to seeing himself killed seemingly effortlessly by Thanos…there are reasons you cast an actor of Hiddleston’s caliber. This scene showed all of them.

Loki Show elevated its character development to a whole new level. We now can able to see the no backstabbing, friendly, and fighting for good Loki we wanted. Also technically he has a girlfriend so it made little more flavor the show.

Villain or Hero, Loki can’t be put in a circle of social morals but I assure you Marvel never failed to surprise its fans. Let wait till Loki season 2.

Do still you seeing Loki as a villain?

Comment your thoughts.
