Your Name: Review - A Rejuvenating trip for our Soul
Most can argue that your name has had its popularity and success owing to its stunning animation and visuals, they are right on one hand but the truth is far from it.
The most underrated elements of the movie are its music, script and the obsession for attention to detail. I know I know some might point out to the flaws in the story line but that’s a late afterthought and I’m sure you too were mesmerized to notice them the first time. Makoto shinkai tried to do something bold with Your Name and Weathering with you, weaving (get it, weaving braided cords get it no takers aight’) Japan’s Shinto myths and beliefs into the heart of the story and characters revolve around it we have seen it in other Ghibli Films but he takes it to a whole new level a class apart from the sea of sameness we are conditioned to from Anime.
The level of detail not just in the visuals but also the elements which support the story is simply astounding, we can see Taki with empty wrists at the beginning of the movie but at the last day they swap we can see him wearing the braided cord for the date with Okudera, also the date and time on Taki’s Dairy he keeps on his phone we can say that they have put real thought to the flow of scenes.
I feel the music director & team are not being credited enough for the job they have done, the visual are good but once they are paired with the music it transcends it to a world rich of grandeur and beauty which cannot be expressed but only be experienced be felt It’s an emotional roller coaster no mincing words here, check out the scenes below to know where I’m coming from
- · First View of Tokyo
- · Trip to Goshintai
To add on top of all of this we are beyond satisfied and heart warmed in the scene where Taki drinks the kuchikamisake and goes onto a psychedelic time trip except he is conscious, we see Mitsuha’s entire life unravel before us, the first time mitsuha’s Zygote divides, her mother being pregnant with her imouto, her mother dying from sickness to the current time where Taki wakes up as mitsuha. This is masterfully thought through and executed that it hits us with intensity unlike anything else.
And off to the finale the sweet sweet release when Taki and Mitsuha meet each other.
Now this is one of those rare instances where an anime or movie has an real effect in your life in your mood not just in a way it makes you happy I’m talking inspiration here something that makes you cry something that has an profound effect on your psyche. Your Name is an milestone to look back which reminds and nourishes that inexplicable bitter sweet emotion which becomes rarer and harder to find as we become adults.
The Hypocritical weeb,
